The Client: Heather Brown, Brown Bird Consulting

After spending nearly a decade running Mind the Bird Media, supporting independent authors and publishers with their publicity efforts, Heather had built up a robust network of literary contacts – and a knack for developing systems to bring PR tasks and data together into actionable workflows.

This newfound focus on operations turned into Brown Bird Consulting, where Heather supports small press, bespoke businesses, and solopreneurs by embedding herself in their businesses to develop systems that work for their unique needs and actually make sense to the people who have to use them each day.  

The Challenge: House both branches of Heather’s brand under one roof – without feeling cluttered or incohesive.

Propegy connected with Heather through her designer, (and our former client!) Annie Gerway.

Annie and Heather knew that they wanted the publicity and operations services to be held on the same website, but were looking for support to organize the information and guide ideal clients to the right service for their needs.

In Heather’s experience, clients weren’t coming to her to decide between operations support or publicity, they already knew what they were looking for. Because of this, we honed in on two distinct calls to action: Get Organized, and Get Visible. Each CTA led to a distinct service page for either operations consulting or Mind the Bird Media PR, making it simple for potential clients to quickly access the service information they were looking for, without getting distracted by other, likely irrelevant service offerings.

Heather was clear that the website was less of a discovery tool and more of a way for potential clients to gather information and validate her credibility before inquiring or deciding to work together. This allowed us to keep the copy simple and streamlined because we weren’t focused on selling as much as we were on simply providing information to allow visitors to make the right choice for them.
